Languages for the transmission of applications

Section 20(1) of Act No 274/2017 on victims of crime and amending certain acts states that ‘the documents and information referred to in Sections 18 and 19 shall be transmitted in the official language, or in one of the official languages, of the Member State whose authority is being addressed, or in another language whose use has been approved by that Member State, with the exception of the following:

(a) decisions taken by the decision-making body, which shall be drawn up in the language determined by its legal order;

(b) statements made by victims of a violent crime or by other persons referred to in Section 18(6)(b) and Section 19(4)(b), which shall be drawn up in the language of the Member State, as determined by its assisting authority.’

Section 20(2) of Act No 274/2017 states that ‘subject to the conditions referred to in paragraph 1, documents and information addressed to the Slovak authorities shall be transmitted in Slovak and English.
