The Ministry of Justice is the state body responsible for compensation of victims, State legal aid and has a specific department responsible for protection of victims of terrorist crimes.

The Ministry of Justice

  • is responsible for preparing, managing and executing the Government's policy on legislative advocacy in criminal, civil, commercial and procedural law
  • is responsible for the Assistance of Victims Offices of the Autonomous Communities which do not have competences on justice
  • facilitates the claiming of compensation from the State
  • ensures access to justice of people who do not have sufficient income
  • has a specific department responsible for the protection of victims of terrorist crimes: Director General for the Support to Victims of Terrorism, Directorate General for the Support of Victims of Terrorism

The Director General for the Support to Victims of Terrorism

  • provides care and support to victims of terrorism
  • works with associations, foundations and other public and private institutions that work with victims of terrorism
  • is responsible for the processing, management and proposal for resolution of cases of aid and compensation to those affected by terrorist offences
  • provides information to victims of terrorism on the procedures in place for applying for public assistance

The Office of Crime Victims Assistance Barcelona is an organisation on regional level for support of victims in criminal proceedings.

The Office of Crime Victims Assistance Barcelona

  • is an organisation on regional level under the Department of Justice of the Government of Catalonia
  • is responsible for providing the necessary support to victims of crime
  • pays special attention to women in situation of gender violence
  • coordinates and monitors orders to protect victims of domestic violence in Barcelona
  • provides advice on the fundamental rights of women to denounce and participate as a party in the judicial process

Association of Terrorism Victims

The Association of Terrorism Victims is a non-profit association, whose aim is the representation and defence of the interests of victims of terrorism and the provision of moral and material aid for them.

11-M Association of Victims of Terrorism

The 11-M Association of Victims of Terrorism has as its main objective to lobby for better provision of medical, psychological, social and legal aid for the victims of the terrorist act in Madrid of 11 March 2004.

The 11-M Association of Victims of Terrorism

  • has as its main objective to lobby for better provision of medical, psychological, social and legal aid for the victims of the terrorist act in Madrid of 11 March 2004
  • has a psycho-social department, a legal department, a communication department and a financial department which try to offer assistance to victims
  • gives advice to those who are affected and provides access to resources, both offered by the association and by various public and private organisations

The National Association of Victims of Violent Crimes is composed of victims, lawyers and psychologists, who inform victims of crime about their rights and about the best psychological treatment for the victim.
