On 29 March 2017, the United Kingdom notified the European Council of its intention to withdraw from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community (‘Euratom’). In accordance with Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union, the Union negotiated with the United Kingdom an agreement setting out the arrangements for its withdrawal, taking account of the framework for our future relationship (‘Withdrawal Agreement’). The Withdrawal Agreement, as agreed between the Parties in October 2019, entered into force on 1 February 2020 (31 January 23:00 (GMT).
What does this mean for users of the European e-Justice Portal?
For the time being, little changes from a practical perspective:
- During the period of the Withdrawal Agreement, the content pages of the United Kingdom, and its participation in the different interactive functionalities of the e-Justice Portal, remain as is;
- We have indicated that the United Kingdom is no longer a Member State of the EU, but a country in the process of transitioning out;
- References to the United Kingdom as a Member State of the EU have been revised. However, as some of the content pages of the e-Justice Portal are under the responsibility of Member States, some revisions may have yet to be carried out;
- The United Kingdom is no longer a member of the European Judicial Network in Civil and Commercial matters (‘EJN’).
