1 Are there different forms of "registered partnerships" in this Member State? Explain the differences between the different forms?
The Portuguese legal system does not make provision for registered partnerships.
However, Law No 7/2001, as amended by Law No 71/2018 of 31 December 2018, lays down certain measures to protect partnerships. These measures are set out in Article 3 of the above Law, and they include the right to use the family home and to receive a pension if one of the partners in a non-marital partnership dies. In addition, Article 2020 of the Portuguese Civil Code (Código Civil) makes provision for a maintenance allowance to be paid from the assets of the deceased partner if one of the partners dies.
