The Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic’s website “Elektronické služby” provides an overview of what public services are available online and how they can be accessed. The website also serves as the gateway to Slovensko.sk, the Central Portal of Public Administration, through which a user has a unified access to public administration information resources and services (on top of such information being available on the individual servers of the various public services). One of the most important tasks of the central portal is to direct the user to the use of a specific electronic public administration service using relevant information resources. The portal provides access to public e-services to citizens, businesses as well as organisations. However, for most of the services the portal provides the possibility to schedule an appointment with the relevant public administration to fulfil the request, whereas purely e-services that can be requested and completed online are a few.
Furthermore, for Slovak nationals resident abroad, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, offers an online reservation system through which an individual may fill in an online request that will then be further processed in person at the relevant representation of Slovakia in the country of residence of the Slovak national.
There continue to be a number of services (such as birth registration, a person being alive, marriage registration, adoption, parenthood) that have to be fulfilled in person rather than online through the responsible public administration in the place of residence of the Slovak citizen.
Legal aid in Slovakia is provided by the Legal Aid Centre (Centrum právnej pomoci), an organisation subordinate to the Ministry of Justice. It is not possible to lodge an application for legal aid online but an individual may schedule online an in person appointment in one of the centre’s offices across the country.
The Slovak law recognises the rights of victims to receive compensation for the damage caused as a result of an offence. However, there are no dedicated portals, tools or websites to lodge claims for damages online.
