The article is a thorough, international examination of the development of audiovisual media services from a legal perspective, within the context of the EU. The author details the first steps of liberalisation and harmonisation, and the later convergence of the regulations. Based on this developmental curve, the author makes several conclusions, such as the apparent intertwining between audiovisual media service providers and Internet and telephone providers.
